I haven't blogged since April 3rd!! Gosh!
Well let me do a little catch up...
In April, I had some pretty great things happen.
First, on April 16th (my sweet cousin's birthday), I ran my first 5k. I had been training for a couple of months. I finished in 31 minutes, and somehow I miraculously got first place in my age group. LOL. I walked away with a medal, and I am pretty proud of it! During mile 2 of my run, I started to cry (all while running and trying to keep a good pace). I cried I think mostly because I never thought I could be a runner. But, I am definitely becoming one! Am I ready for a half marathon? Heck no! But, is it seeming more and more like something I could accomplish one day? Sure. One thing is certain, it is hard to train outside in this heat during the summer! Treadmill training it is!
Second, on Aprili 20th, I turned 27. Crazy! Next year will be my 10 year high school reunion! Time flies by! I had a really nice birthday weekend filled with my family (my cousin and I always celebrate together, we've shared more birthday cakes than I can remember.) My sweet friends also took me out to dinner at Longhorn, and despite the long wait, we had a blast and enjoyed some free appetizers because of our wait. To top that dinner off, my friends surprised me with a fat free yogurt cake from TCBY. YUM.
Thirdly, in April, I also began training with the 5th graders at my school to run their own 5k. It all finished with a 5k at Shelby Farms on May 6th.
That being said, on to May...
May came with the hustle and bustle of the end of a wonderful school year. I haven't cried about a class since I student taught! So in May there were SEVERAL events.
5th Grade 5k: Amazing! I saw some pretty awesome students train, and cross that finish line. I ran back and finished that race several times so I could finish with all of the little lovlies I trained with.
St. George's graduation: As a faculty member now, we all attend the senior graduation dressed in graduation robes. Since I didn't cross the stage when I got my masters, it was nice to wear the robe with the "hood" that you receive with your masters. :)
5th Grade "Crossing": This ceremony was for the 5th graders who will be crossing over to the middle school next year. A very sentimental and touching ceremony!!!
Field Day/Class Parties: I have never experienced such an amazingly organized, fun filled day! And of course, our class party was a hit!
Lower School End of Year Party: This was for just faculty and staff. It was catered by Swanky's Taco shop and super yummy! It was nice getting to hang out with all of my co-workers. It was held on the lawn of the Germantown campus.
Elementary Division Party: Yep, ANOTHER party. This was a nice little get together at my supervisors house. We hung out by her pool enjoyed drinks and good conversation. I even got some good sun!
So as you can see May had been slammed.
Now as we enter June things seem to be slowing down a bit. This Sunday I am having all of my parents and students over to my house for a nice get together. I also will be leaving for a conference that my school is sending me to in Omaha, NE. I've never been to Nebraska! In July we are trying to book a condo in Destin for a getaway.
Hopefully now that I have more free time, I'll be able to blog more. Hope y'all's summer is going great so far!

- My name is Katie and I am 26 years old. I am a 3rd Grade teacher for St. George's Independent Schools(Memphis Campus). I am married to the man of my dreams and we live in cozy house in Olive Branch, Mississippi. I now have a Mississippi driver's license and tags and quite often loose my car in parking lots because I'm not used to those tags. I am a diehard Memphis Tiger's basketball fan, and love this time of year.
